A citywide liquor ban will be enforced in Quezon City starting at 12:00 midnight on Monday, July 28, as part of preparations for President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA).
In an executive order No. 9 signed by Mayor Joy Belmonte, the move aims to ensure peace and security in the area during the SONA which will be held at the Batasang Pambansa Complex.
“The Office of the City Mayor, through the Philippine National Police, the City Department of Public Order and Safety, the City Traffic and Transport Department, City Task Force Disiplina, and all other implementing offices, as may be authorized, are hereby tasked to assist in the implementation of this Order, and penalize violators of the same,” the executive order reads.
The city will lift the liquor ban at 6:00 p.m. or after the SONA concludes.
In addition, classes at all levels in both public and private schools in Quezon City are suspended on Monday, following Executive Order No. 10, Series of 2025.
The suspension seeks to encourage the public to listen to the President’s address and to prevent commuters from getting caught in heavy traffic.
According to the report of RH Val Gonzales, a traffic rerouting scheme will also be implemented along Commonwealth Avenue and surrounding areas of the House of Representatives.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), in coordination with various law enforcement agencies, will oversee traffic management to minimize disruption and ensure public safety throughout the event.
