Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease caused by Leptospira, which can spread through water contaminated with the urine of infected animals, particularly rats. People may contract the disease when contaminated floodwater comes into contact with cuts or wounds on the skin.
The Quezon City Health Department urged residents, particularly those who have waded through floodwaters, to visit their nearest health center or hospital if they experience symptoms of leptospirosis.
