The Quezon City Council has strongly condemned the inappropriate and offensive statement made by Congressman Bong Suntay during a recent congressional hearing, stressing that public officials must uphold the dignity of women at all times.
In its official statement, the council declared, "Such remarks, which demean and objectify women, have no place in public discourse and are a direct affront to the values of respect and gender equality that Quezon City stands for.”
It further emphasized the responsibility of lawmakers to uphold the very laws they enact, stating, "As lawmakers, we are duty-bound to uphold the very laws we enact to protect and promote the rights and dignity of women.”
The council warned that these comments erode professionalism in public service and risk normalizing harmful attitudes, adding that they undermine the progress made in advancing women’s rights and meaningful participation in governance.
In line with Women’s Month, the council also urged men to take an active role in promoting respect and inclusion: “We call upon men to stand as allies and advocates—actively promoting respect, challenging harmful stereotypes, and fostering safe and inclusive spaces in our homes, workplaces, and communities.”
Reaffirming its commitment, the Quezon City Council vowed to ensure that all women are treated with dignity, respect, and equality, as enshrined in the laws it upholds and enforces.
