Typhoon Queenie (Surigae) slightly intensified as it accelerated north-northeastward, according to PAGASA on Sunday morning.
In its 5:00 a.m. Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 12, PAGASA said the center of Queenie was estimated at 685 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, based on available data as of 4:00 a.m.
Queenie was packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center, with gustiness of up to 160 kph and a central pressure of 975 hectopascals.
The typhoon was moving north-northeastward at 15 kph, with strong to storm-force winds extending up to 300 kilometers from its center.
No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal is currently hoisted over any part of the country.
PAGASA said Queenie is unlikely to directly affect the Philippines throughout the forecast period.
However, moderate seas of up to 2.0 meters are expected over the northern seaboard of Batanes. Mariners of motorbancas and similarly sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures and, if possible, avoid navigating under these conditions.
PAGASA said Queenie is expected to move generally northeastward over most of the forecast period and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility between noon and afternoon on Sunday.
Once outside the PAR, the typhoon is expected to accelerate northeastward toward the sea south of mainland Japan.
Queenie is also forecast to intensify further while moving over the sea south of the Okinawa Islands before reaching peak intensity and beginning to weaken by Monday, September 28.
