The local government warned it may cancel the rally permit granted to members of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) at the EDSA People Power Monument if organizers violate agreed conditions.

Quezon City Public Order and Safety Department chief retired Gen. Elmo San Diego said the permit remains conditional, stressing that any breach of rules could lead to its revocation.

San Diego said the group had initially staged a rally without a permit, prompting authorities to issue a warning and require organizers to formally apply.

“Winarning naman natin sila na pag uulitin nyo yan, hindi pe-pwede. Kaya na obliga sila mag-submit ng request for rally permit,” he said.

The INC had sought to hold demonstrations for up to four days starting Tuesday, but the city government rejected the request and instead approved a one-day permit subject to evaluation.

“So far, wala akong nakikita ang violation. Sinusunod naman nila,” San Diego said, noting that the permit is valid only until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

He added that the local government will assess whether to extend the permit based on the situation on the ground, particularly public safety and security conditions.

San Diego said authorities required participants to stay within designated areas, particularly along White Plains Avenue, and to clear vehicles obstructing major roads.

He noted that traffic along the northbound lanes of EDSA had improved after parked vehicles were removed, including a bus earlier flagged by authorities.

The official also raised concerns over crowd size, saying organizers were expecting around 100,000 participants, which could pose logistical challenges for security forces.

“Maraming tao sila, kailangan din namin ng maraming tao,” San Diego said, adding that authorities would also have to monitor participants if they remain overnight, further complicating operations.

City officials said they will continue to monitor the rally and determine if an extension is necessary, depending on compliance with regulations and overall public safety.
