The Quezon City Regional Trial Court (QCRTC) Branch 98 issued an arrest warrant against Vice President Sara Duterte over three counts of alleged grave threats.
DZRH reporter Val Gonzales, reporting from the Quezon City Hall of Justice on Friday, September 4, said Atty. Angelo del Mundo, Branch Clerk of Court of RTC Branch 98, confirmed that Judge Maria Angelica T. de Ramos issued the warrant against Duterte.
The case was reportedly filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) under Section 6 of Republic Act No. 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, in relation to the alleged offenses.
The court set bail at ₱120,000 for the three counts cited in the warrant.
Personnel from the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) were also seen at the Quezon City Hall of Justice to coordinate with the court following the issuance of the warrant.
Duterte's legal team is expected to process and post the required bail through her lawyers.
The case stems from allegations of grave threats against the Vice President. The court's issuance of the warrant follows proceedings in which Duterte's camp had sought the dismissal of the complaint.
Judge De Ramos had earlier disclosed that she and Duterte were sorority sisters at the San Beda College of Law. Despite the connection, De Ramos proceeded with the case and issued the warrant.
The issuance of an arrest warrant does not constitute a finding of guilt. Duterte remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
