Just two days before the New Year, the Quezon City Epidemiology Surveillance Division (CESD) reported a total of 12 individuals with fireworks-related injuries (FWRIs) in the city.
Based on the data released, the victims include 11 males and 1 female.
Of the 12 cases, seven were classified as passive involvement, meaning they were injured by fireworks handled by someone else.
The remaining five were considered active involvement, where the victims themselves directly handled the fireworks.
CESD further reported that three incidents occurred in Barangay Baesa, while the remaining cases were recorded in Barangays Commonwealth, Culiat, Matandang Balara, Holy Spirit, Kaligayahan, San Bartolome, Payatas, Pinyahan, and Sauyo.
These figures cover incidents recorded from December 1 to 29.
The City Health Department noted that this year’s injuries are still 43% lower compared to fireworks-related injuries reported during the same period last year.
Meanwhile, there were no reported cases of fireworks ingestion or stray bullet injuries during the same timeframe.
