

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte led the commemoration of the 214th birth anniversary of Melchora “Tandang Sora” Aquino at her memorial monument in Brgy. Banlat, Quezon City, on January 6, honoring the life and legacy of the revered “Mother of the Philippine Revolution.”
The ceremony highlighted Tandang Sora’s courage, patriotism, and compassion, recalling her vital role in sheltering and aiding Katipuneros during the fight against Spanish colonial rule.
As part of the celebration, the city government conferred the Gawad Tandang Sora on Felicite Jean E. Gonzales, recognizing her lifelong advocacy for the dignity, rights, and full inclusion of children with disabilities, particularly those from marginalized communities.
The event also featured the opening of the Bangsamoro Women’s Exhibit at the Tandang Sora Women’s Museum, showcasing the culture and stories of outstanding Muslim women. The museum is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with free admission, reinforcing Quezon City’s commitment to honoring women’s contributions and promoting inclusive cultural awareness.
