Families affected by the recent fire along NIA Road in Barangay Pinyahan will be provided with safe and decent housing in the same area, Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte announced on Tuesday, March 10.
In a Facebook post, Belmonte assured residents that they will not be displaced from their community.
"Napagkasunduan ang pagpapatayo ng ligtas at maayos na housing o pabahay sa parehong lugar, ibig sabihin po, hindi po sila mawawala sa lugar na kanilang minahal at kinagisnan," Belmonte said.
After inspecting the damage caused by the large fire, the Quezon City government immediately held a meeting with the National Housing Authority (NHA) and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) to discuss measures to address the needs of the affected families.
The fire affected more than 1,900 families, who are currently staying in various evacuation centers. The local government, along with DHSUD and NHA, will work together to provide a safe and dignified relocation site for the victims.
In addition, the LGU is coordinating with NHA and DHSUD to determine the best course of action for the damaged area, emphasizing in-city housing solutions.
Various government agencies have also provided food and modular tents, while the Quezon City Veterinary Department has set up a pet holding area for the families’ pets.
