The Quezon City Government strongly condemned the violent incident that injured more than 20 personnel of the Quezon City Police District during a clearing operation along NIA Road, Barangay Pinyahan, on Thursday, April 9.

In a statement, the city government said, “Mariing kinokondena ng Pamahalaang Lungsod Quezon ang naganap na karahasan laban sa ating mga kawani ng lungsod,” after police officers were pelted with bottles, stones, and other hard objects while carrying out their duties.

Despite the unrest, the city commended the personnel for showing “maximum tolerance and professionalism” amid the tension.

Authorities said initial findings point to certain individuals with vested interests—such as illegal landlords and ineligible housing beneficiaries—who allegedly instigated the disturbance to protect their gains from public land.

The local government stressed that such actions threaten public safety and delay the implementation of its housing program, adding: “Hindi natin maaaring hayaang manaig ang interes ng iilan laban sa kapakanan ng nakararami.”

The city assured that legitimate residents will remain the priority beneficiaries of the housing project, with over 1,600 out of 2,332 affected families already issued certifications for future housing units under a planned vertical housing development set for completion by December 2027.

Financial assistance has also been extended, with over ₱100 million already distributed, including ₱60,000 for homeowners and ₱35,000 for renters and sharers, alongside additional rental subsidies from the government.

The Quezon City government reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, decent, and affordable housing, vowing not to let violence hinder a project aimed at securing the future of thousands of residents.
