The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has appointed an Officer-in-Charge (OIC) to lead the Quezon City Fire Department following the administrative relief of its District Fire Marshal, who is allegedly involved in a ₱5-million fire extinguisher kickback scheme.

According to an official order, Fire Senior Superintendent Rodrigo N. Reyes has been administratively relieved from his post as District Fire Marshal for District V of the BFP National Capital Region (NCR) pending investigation.

Reyes has been reassigned to the Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (PHAU) at BFP National Headquarters.

In the meantime, Fire Senior Superintendent Froilan B. Guzman has been designated as Officer-in-Charge of District V, NCR, in addition to his existing responsibilities. The order, signed by BFP Chief Fire Director Jesus P. Fernandez, is effective immediately.

The administrative relief comes as authorities continue to investigate alleged corruption within the BFP, specifically concerning the purchase and distribution of fire extinguishers and alleged rigging of other fire related services.

In a previous interview on Dos Por Dos, DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla expressed concern over corruption in the BFP, describing it as more widespread than in other uniformed agencies, including the Philippine National Police.

Remulla said the DILG has also submitted recommendations to hold officials accountable and implement reforms to restore integrity within the agency.
