The Quezon City Government has officially launched the Manuel L. Quezon Filipino Language and Literature Scholarship Program following the enactment of Ordinance No. SP-3458, S-2025, reinforcing the city’s commitment to accessible education and cultural development.
The ordinance amends the Expanded Scholarship Code of Quezon City to include a dedicated scholarship track for students, educators, researchers, and writers pursuing Filipino language, literature, linguistics, translation, and related disciplines. The program covers scholarships for tertiary and postgraduate students, as well as creative writing and literary grants.
Under the program, qualified tertiary students may receive up to ₱160,000 per academic year in private institutions or a ₱50,000 annual stipend in public institutions, while postgraduate scholars may receive up to ₱105,000 per school year upon submission of a research proposal aligned with the promotion of Filipino language and literature.
The ordinance also establishes a Creative Writing and Literary Grant that provides financial support to young and established writers producing original works in Filipino, with grant assistance reaching up to ₱40,000 for stipend and publication support.
Mayor Joy Belmonte welcomed the measure, saying the scholarship honors the legacy of President Manuel L. Quezon and ensures the continued growth of Filipino language and literature, while city officials emphasized its role in expanding inclusive education and strengthening national identity.
