Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) has begun deploying persons with disabilities (PWDs) as ambulant ticket vendors in selected LRT-1 stations under its new inclusivity program, ‘Project PWD: Promoting Workforce Diversity.’
“At LRMC, we are proud to lead the way in ensuring equal opportunities for all, regardless of their physical abilities,” said LRMC President and CEO Enrico R. Benipayo.
The Station Service Aides will help sell tickets during peak hours to reduce queues and improve passenger flow. The initiative follows a Memorandum of Agreement between LRMC and the Manila City Government.
“Project PWD is a testament to our belief that a diverse workforce is a key driver in providing better service to our passengers, while simultaneously creating a pathway for our persons with special needs partners to achieve greater economic self-sufficiency,” Benipayo said.
Under the part-time scheme, hired PWDs will work four hours daily for less than five months.
LRMC said the program promotes equal employment opportunities while enhancing frontline operations and commuter experience.
