Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, brother to Vice President Sara Duterte, hopes that the impeachment trial will “allow the truth to emerge” from the multitude of accusations and political narratives pitched against her.
“I hope the proceedings will be conducted fairly, professionally, and without unnecessary distractions,” said Congressman Duterte in a statement on Monday, July 6, the first day of the impeachment trial against the vice president.
“I hope this process finally allows the truth to emerge from the mountain of accusations, speculation, political narratives, and noise that have surrounded this issue for months. The Filipino people deserve facts, not rumors. Evidence, not innuendo. Truth, not propaganda,” he asserted.
The lawmaker expressed confidence that the trial would provide the vice president a proper forum to answer all allegations against her and ensure due process. Likewise, he said Vice President Duterte “made it clear” she is ready to face her charges.
He appealed to the public to approach the trial with “an open mind” and to allow the Senate impeachment court to do its work.
“At the end of the day, political attacks may generate headlines, but only the truth can stand the test of scrutiny. We remain hopeful that this trial will not only settle the issues being raised but also expose the motivations behind them,” the lawmaker said.
“Let the evidence speak. Let the facts prevail. Let the truth come out,” he concluded.
On Monday, the impeachment court will tackle the fourth Article of Impeachment, the grave threats allegedly made against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
