The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will host a free public watch party on Monday, July 6, for Filipina tennis standout Alex Eala’s Round of 16 match in the Wimbledon Championships against Italy’s Jasmine Paolini.

The event will be held at the PhilSports Arena, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the PSC.

Ahead of Eala’s match, organizers will screen the FIBA Basketball World Cup Asian Qualifiers game between Gilas Pilipinas and Australia starting at 6:30 p.m. The broadcast may be interrupted to give way to the live coverage of the Eala-Paolini showdown.

The PSC said the watch party comes after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. hailed Eala’s breakthrough at Wimbledon as a triumph for the Filipino people, citing it as a display of the nation’s talent and resilience.

Eala advanced to the fourth round of the prestigious grass-court tournament following a stunning 7-6(9), 6-2 victory over defending champion Iga Swiatek of Poland at Centre Court on Saturday, marking one of the biggest wins of her career.

She is set to face world No. 15 Paolini in a bid to reach the semifinals.

The PSC encouraged fans to come early due to limited seating and parking availability within the PhilSports complex. Food and drinks will be allowed inside the venue, while a limited selection of snacks will also be sold on-site.

Guests are advised to observe proper attire, with slippers, sleeveless undershirts and similar clothing discouraged for the event.

The watch party aims to rally support for Philippine athletes competing on the global stage, with fans expected to gather for both the tennis and basketball matchups.
