Russia’s Tatiana Prozorova became the first Singles semifinalist of the Philippine Women’s Open after surviving a grueling three-set battle against Belgium’s Sofia Costoulas, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, on Thursday, January 29, at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Prozorova powered through the Manila heat and a highly aggressive opponent in a match that stretched beyond two hours.

After dropping the opening set, the Russian steadied her game in the second, imposing her rhythm and capitalizing on Costoulas’ errors to level the contest.

The deciding third set turned into a tense exchange, with Costoulas briefly gaining the upper hand. Prozorova, however, stayed composed under pressure, matching the Belgian’s pace from the baseline and making timely runs to the net to catch her opponent off-guard.

With momentum shifting late in the match, Prozorova seized control and closed out the contest to book her place in the semifinals, continuing her strong campaign in the tournament.
