Seven protesters from a Southern Tagalog organization had their heads shaved in a demonstration against “balding” mountainsides in front of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) office along Visayas Avenue in Quezon City, according to a Sunday report by RH 5 Val Gonzales.

The bold demonstration is only part of a longer protest, the group said, with Sunday marking the Timog Katagalugan Caravan’s second day under the leadership of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan - Southern Tagalog.

Some women were among those who had their heads shaved.

The protesters were also seen hurling rocks at effigies of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and U.S. President Donald Trump.

The group is calling for the DENR to be held accountable for the destruction of natural resources linked to mining, land reclamation and conversion projects leading to deforestation in their region.

After the demonstration, the caravan headed to the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), then the Department of Agriculture (DA) to call for true agrarian reforms and government backing for farmers and fishermen.

At 1:00 p.m., the allied groups held another protest at the office of the Department of National Defense (DND) to openly condemn its militarization and red-tagging of activists and communities.

At 3:00 p.m., the groups met with youth organizations at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman to prepare for the People’s State of the Nation Address on Monday, July 27.

President Marcos’ fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) will be held tomorrow, July 27, at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City.
