A standoff between police and rallyists flared up near the Senate on Monday afternoon, the first day of the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte, according to a report by RH 15 Jecelle Ricafort.

There was shoving between the two parties when police sought to block the progressive groups, who were marching to the Senate from the Film Center.

Eventually, the protesters were permitted to stay close to the front of the Senate building to stage their demonstration, appealing to the court to hold Duterte accountable.

Pasay City Police Chief PCol. Joselito de Sesto clarified that the conflict was a mere misunderstanding.

Previously, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said it would allow demonstrations along the southbound lane of Diokno Boulevard.
