Tension erupted between protesters and police outside Aliw Theatre in Pasay City on Wednesday, July 22, as activists staged a rally opposing the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio for the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and the proposed U.S.-led Pax Silica project.

According to a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, more than 100 members of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan and other activist groups gathered in the area carrying placards, criticizing what they described as U.S. intervention abroad and increased American military presence in the Philippines.
