Nearly 400 protesters gathered outside the Senate on Thursday, calling for the resignation of Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano.
According to a report by RH Jecelle Ricafort, carrying placards and tarpaulins, members of the group ”Sandugo” demanded that Cayetano step down, saying that if he still had “a sense of shame,” he should voluntarily leave his post.
The rally took place along the perimeter of the Senate grounds, where demonstrators voiced their grievances through chants and slogans.
The protesters also expressed support for Senator Francis Escudero, whom they credited for helping secure a quorum in the Senate session on Wednesday, June 3.
In a separate set of demands, supporters of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called for the immediate impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
They also urged the arrest of Senator Ronaldo “Bato” dela Rosa, whom they linked to ongoing International Criminal Court (ICC) proceedings over alleged crimes against humanity.
Aside from staging a rally along the southbound lane of Diokno Boulevard, the protesters also performed brief dances as part of their demonstration, blending performance and political messaging to air their demands and express support for the current administration.
