Former lawmaker and prosecution Spokesperson Robert Ace Barbers hit back at Senators Pia and Alan Peter Cayetano in connection with a “maliciously” spliced video shared with the public, according to a report on Magandang Umaga Pilipinas.

Barbers urged the senators to share only the truth after Senator Pia Cayetano posted a spliced video of an exchange between Akbayan Party-list Rep. Chel Diokno and her brother, sitting as a judge during the impeachment trial, regarding the disclosure of Vice President Sara Duterte’s financial records.

In the video, Diokno appears to be admitting that the prosecution panel has been on a “fishing expedition,” or probing the issue of Duterte’s accumulated wealth in the hopes of stumbling across incriminating evidence, rather than seeking the disclosure of her records due to notable discrepancies.

“We would also like to ask Senator-judge Pia Cayetano and Senator-judge Alan Cayetano to simply tell the Filipino people, especially those that have seen this spliced video, kung ano ‘yung katotohanan dahil nandodoon naman po sila noong araw na iyon, noong habang nagkakaroon ng oral arguments. At alam po nila, dinig na dinig nila kung ano ‘yung katotohanan, na taliwas o hindi kapareha nung video na kumakalat sa ngayon,” Barbers said in a video statement.

The Cayetano siblings must correct this misleading video for the sake of fairness, Barbers said.

“So I do hope, in the spirit of fairness, the senator-judge showing their impartiality, ay sana mabago at ma-correct po itong video na ito,” he said.

In addition, he called on Presiding Officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero to remind the senator-judges and all involved in the trial to preserve the integrity, fairness, and credibility of the impeachment process.

The impeachment court permitted the prosecution’s request for a subpoena for the Vice President and her husband, Atty. Manases “Mans” Carpio’s bank and tax records on July 20.
