Proposed Senate resolutions on Wednesday reached a record-high of 38 to honor tennis star Alex Eala following her historic win at the Mubadala DC Open on August 3.

Eala’s breakthrough makes her the first Filipino athlete to win a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 500 Tournament Singles Title.

“Thirty-eight resolutions was advised, congratulating Alex Eala for her victory,” Senate President Sherwin “Win” Gatchalian said, after Majority Floor Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri announced a long list of proposed resolutions.

“I think a record number of resolutions for one particular athlete,” Zubiri replied.

Presenting his own resolution honoring Eala for her momentous milestone, Gatchalian commended the values she displayed on and off the court.

“The Filipino athlete has always been capable of greatness. Alex Eala’s victory in the 2026 Mubadala DC Open has once again brought the finest virtues of the Filipino to the world stage: courage, fortitude, and grit were on display in spades,” the Senate President said.

He also lauded her humility and awareness beyond the court.

“Excellence is not a single brilliant act,” he said, citing Eala’s progression “one hard match at a time.”

Just after her title run at the Mubadala DC Open, Eala triumphed again in her opening campaign in the WTA 1000 National Bank Open on Thursday (Philippine time), August 6.

She defeated Alycia Parks, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
