Authorities have taken into custody the primary suspect in the killing of Police Staff Sergeant Renato Casauay Jr., whose body was discovered inside a septic tank in Malolos, Bulacan, on January 31, as reported by RH Edniel Parrosa.

The victim’s remains were found at the back of the house owned by Oliver Mauricio, the son of journalist (periodista) Orlan “Orly” Mauricio, according to police reports.

In a report submitted to Camp Crame, authorities confirmed that Mon Salamat, identified as the alleged gunman, surrendered to law enforcement. Salamat is accused of shooting Casauay in Malolos City on January 24.

Police noted that Salamat carried a ₱1-million bounty on his head in connection with a murder case.

Aside from Salamat, two other suspects had earlier surrendered at separate Philippine National Police (PNP) stations.

Earlier, police also arrested four individuals, including the journalist’s son and the owner of the house where the shooting allegedly occurred. They were taken into custody for allegedly failing to report information related to the crime to the proper authorities.
