President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has convened a meeting Thursday morning in Malacañang to discuss the shooting incident that occurred inside the Senate building the previous night, the Presidential Palace said.

According to a report by RH Leth Narciso, the Palace said the meeting will focus on the events surrounding the reported gunfire at the Senate on Wednesday evening.

While no official list of attendees was released, officials from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) are expected to take part.

Marcos earlier said both the PNP and the Senate would conduct separate investigations into the incident. He said authorities would determine who was responsible, whether there was an actual armed encounter, and if the incident could be linked to alleged efforts to destabilize or trigger unrest.

The investigation will also cover developments outside the Senate complex, including groups that gathered and were reportedly urging others to enter the premises following reports of gunfire.

It remains unclear whether Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano will attend the meeting. Marcos said he had spoken with Cayetano on Wednesday night, and they agreed on the need to calm the situation and determine the cause of the incident.

In a late-night statement on Wednesday, May 13, Marcos assured the public that no government forces were involved in the reported security incident.

He said he had been monitoring the situation for more than two hours and had coordinated with key security officials after reports of gunfire surfaced.
