The preliminary investigation against Senator Jinggoy Estrada and other respondents in connection with alleged anomalies in flood control projects is still ongoing, according to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
NBI Deputy Director for Operations Atty. Jose Justo Yap said no arrest warrant has been issued so far, as the case remains under preliminary investigation, as reported by RH Jecelle Ricafort.
He explained that a warrant of arrest may only be issued once an information is filed before the Sandiganbayan.
“I think so far wala pang warrant of issued against them. So, I think ongoing pa ‘yong preliminary investigation, but once na may file of information na sa Sandiganbayan, [the] Sandiganbayan will issue a warrant of arrest,” Yap said.
Yap assured that the NBI is prepared to enforce any arrest order should the Sandiganbayan issue one in the future.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) earlier said that Estrada would face a plunder complaint over the alleged flood control anomaly, an accusation the senator’s camp has dismissed as baseless.
Estrada is also among those included in the complaints filed by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure before the Office of the Ombudsman in relation to the same controversy.
