Authorities have ordered the pre-emptive evacuation of residents within the 6-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) of Mayon Volcano following its escalation to Alert Level 3 on Tuesday.
Albay Governor Noel Rosal and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council–Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office (PDRRMC-APSEMO) directed local governments to immediately relocate affected residents as a precaution against possible hazardous volcanic activity.
The advisory also mandates 24-hour monitoring of the volcano, suspension of classes in affected areas, strict security enforcement to prevent entry into the danger zone, and the declaration of a no-fly zone above Mayon. The Mayon Skyline tourist area has been temporarily closed.
Authorities advised the public to use face masks or damp cloths in case of ashfall and urged LGUs and barangay disaster councils to remain on high alert and rely only on official updates from PHIVOLCS and local authorities.
