Power service has been partially restored in Barangay 184, Pasay City, after a Meralco power pole carrying two transformers collapsed amid strong winds on Thursday, September 3, damaging the roof of a nearby house.
Barangay 184 Captain Julie Barrameda told DZRH News that as of 4 p.m., around 100 to 150 households remained without electricity, down from approximately 500 households initially affected by the incident.
The fallen pole was reportedly brought down from the roof of the house where it landed, while repair and clearing operations continued in the area.
Barrameda said some Meralco crews had informed barangay officials that the full restoration of electricity could extend until Friday, particularly after heavy rains also affected the area. The incident earlier prompted authorities to secure the vicinity because of live electrical wires and the potential danger to residents and motorists.
Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe Zaldarriaga said the company immediately deployed crews after receiving reports of the damaged pole in Marricaban, Pasay City.
“Agad na rumesponde ang aming mga crew matapos matanggap ang ulat ng nabaling poste ng kuryente sa Marricaban, Pasay City ngayong Huwebes, Setyembre 3, dahil sa malakas na hangin,” Zaldarriaga said.
He added that Meralco personnel were conducting clearing operations and had coordinated with the owner of the house whose roof was damaged. No injuries were reported.
According to Meralco, only around 200 residents remained without electricity as of its latest assessment, a figure lower than the barangay’s estimate of 100 to 150 affected households, depending on how the affected units are counted.
Zaldarriaga said the company’s crews were working to restore power as soon as possible and appealed for the public’s understanding while repairs were underway.
The incident was initially reported after residents heard a loud crash as strong winds swept through the community. The collapsed pole struck a house and affected electrical service in the surrounding area. Authorities also temporarily restricted access near the affected site because of the damaged electrical infrastructure and live wires.
Meralco continues to repair the affected facilities and restore electricity to the remaining customers in the area.
