A fire was narrowly avoided at the Senate Legislative Bills and Index Service Office on the afternoon of January 22 after a charging power bank caught fire on the second floor of the building.
According to Daniel Esteban of the Senate’s Electrical Department, the power bank exploded and ignited while plugged into an extension cord connected to another extension. The fire was immediately contained using a fire extinguisher, preventing further damage.
No injuries were reported, and Senate personnel quickly responded to secure the area. Authorities are reminding employees to exercise caution when using charging devices and extension cords.
The incident comes months after a separate fire broke out on the third floor of the Senate building on November 30, which was reportedly caused by an electrical wiring issue.
