The Police have pledged assistance to the Discaya family after their property was destroyed by protesters, according to RH 52 Edniel Parrosa’s report.

Chief of Pasig City Police Colonel Hendrix Mangaldan said that the contractors' camp is only preparing the documents for the complaint to be filed.

This comes after a protest on Thursday, September 4, by the People Surge National Alliance of Disaster Survivors and Victims at the St. Gerrard Construction compound, one of nine construction firms owned by the powerful Discaya family, during which protesters pelted the area with mud and committed acts of vandalism.

The protesters demanded accountability for flood control projects plagued by corruption, which had allegedly squandered billions in public funds while still leaving millions of Filipinos under floods, submerged in disaster and neglect.

According to Mangaldan, the police will continue to exercise maximum tolerance, as nearly 100 officers from the Pasig Philippine National Police (PNP) remain stationed at the Discaya compound.

“Identified po yung grupo at mga leaders, and we are preparing the necessary charges against them, and coordination po doon sa pamilya Discaya,” said National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Police Major General Anthony Aberin on Friday in an interview with the media.

He also said that the protest happened without permission.

Aberin assured the public that they are ready to assist in the arrest of any individuals who may be the subject of formal complaints, should the need arise.

Moreover, militants once again stormed the property on Friday, this time led by the Akbayan Partylist, which held a protest with a 'ghost-hunting' theme.

Authorities deployed 2,000 police officers from the NCRPO to ensure security during the protest actions and prevent a possible escalation of the situation.

Meanwhile, the Discaya family's legal counsel, Atty. Cornelio Samaniego III told DZRH that they are currently studying the possibility of filing criminal complaints for malicious mischief and vandalism in connection with the incident.
