A police officer was killed after being shot in the head by a robbery suspect during a follow-up operation in Barangay Sampaga, Balayan, Batangas.
Personnel of the Santa Teresita Municipal Police Station were conducting an operation to locate the suspect following a reported robbery, RH Eric Dastas reported. Upon reaching the suspect’s location, the suspect allegedly opened fire at the pursuing police officers, hitting one officer in the head.
The police officer was rushed for medical attention but was declared dead due to his injuries.
The suspect managed to flee the area aboard a motorcycle but was later intercepted at a checkpoint. Another exchange of gunfire ensued between the suspect and police officers, resulting in the suspect being shot.
The suspect later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities recovered a .38-caliber firearm and the motorcycle allegedly used by the suspect at the scene. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
