A police officer and a security guard were arrested after they allegedly assaulted and threatened another police officer inside a supermarket in Quezon City on Tuesday, August 12.
According to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Wednesday, the incident occurred at a supermarket along Quirino Highway, Barangay Baesa, Quezon City.
Based on the initial investigation, the victim, an active QCPD police officer, was allegedly prevented from leaving the establishment by a security guard identified by the alias “Mida” despite presenting his receipt for the items he had purchased.
The victim also identified himself as a police officer, but Mida allegedly still refused to let him leave and called another active police officer alias “Rey,” who was inside the establishment.
"The police officer allegedly intervened, pointed his firearm at the victim, forcibly pulled him back inside, and struck him with the firearm, causing injuries. The security guard allegedly assisted in restraining the victim," the QCPD wrote in a Facebook post.
Responding police officers reviewed CCTV footage of the incident, which led to the arrest of the two suspects.
A firearm, ammunition, handcuffs, and other items were recovered from the suspects for documentation and further investigation.
Rey is facing charges of grave threats, physical injuries, and grave coercion, while Mida is facing a charge of grave coercion.
The QCPD said the police officer may also face the appropriate administrative case if found liable.
QCPD Director PBGen. Randy Glenn Silvio reminded police personnel to exercise restraint, uphold professionalism, and follow police protocols at all times.
“No one is above the law. We remain steadfast in upholding the rule of law, accountability, and professionalism, and we will not tolerate any act of misconduct, violence, or abuse of authority within the police service,” Silvio said.
