The Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Friday that it is working closely with the Sandiganbayan to execute the arrest warrants issued against resigned Congressman Elizaldy Co and 17 others in connection to their alleged involvement in the flood control controversy.
“The PNP is coordinating closely with the Sandiganbayan and other concerned agencies to ensure the lawful and orderly implementation of these warrants. We assure the public that due process will be strictly observed, and the individuals involved will be accorded all rights guaranteed under the law,” PNP Acting Chief PLtGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez said in a statement.
The national police urged Filipinos to trust the government, assuring they will perform their duties “with integrity, respect for the rule of law, and commitment to justice.”
Earlier, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that warrants of arrest have been issued against Co and 17 others from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and Sunwest Corp.
He, along with the Office of the Ombudsman, have called on law enforcement agencies to implement the warrants immediately.
