The Philippine National Police (PNP) has turned over new sets of evidence to the Department of Justice (DOJ) in connection with the continuing investigation into the disappearance of several cockfighting enthusiasts, popularly referred to as “sabungeros”, as reported by RH Edniel Parrosa.
According to the PNP, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) submitted five flash drives containing digital files along with additional sworn affidavits to the prosecutor handling the preliminary investigation.
The cases under review cover complaints of murder and kidnapping with serious illegal detention. These charges were earlier filed by the PNP and the families of the victims against businessman Charlie “Atong” Ang, actress Gretchen Barretto, and several others.
The controversy traces back to multiple disappearance incidents between 2021 and 2022, which generated nationwide concern due to alleged links with both online and traditional cockfighting operations.
The police leadership noted that the newly submitted materials are expected to strengthen the evidence already on record and assist in identifying those responsible for the crimes.
While the investigation continues to gather and submit findings, the next phase of action will depend on the judicial process now overseen by the DOJ.
The PNP also emphasized that coordination with the DOJ remains ongoing to ensure progress in the high-profile case.
