The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday it will comply with a Sandiganbayan order directing the release of former Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel “Manny” Bonoan from detention.

The Sandiganbayan Fifth Division issued the resolution Thursday, Sept. 3, ordering Bonoan’s release after granting the prosecution’s motion to file amended informations that no longer included him as an accused in the cases of graft and plunder in relation to the flood control corruption scandal.

The court subsequently recalled the commitment orders previously issued against Bonoan.

The PNP said its Health Service General Hospital has been directed to facilitate Bonoan’s release, unless he is being held for another lawful reason.

“The PNP respects the authority of the Sandiganbayan to evaluate the evidence and circumstances presented before it and to issue appropriate rulings based on the merits of the cases,” the police said in a statement.

The PNP said it will faithfully comply with the court’s order and emphasized its commitment to upholding the rule of law and following lawful judicial directives.

Bonoan’s exclusion from the amended informations effectively removes him as an accused in the cases covered by the Sandiganbayan resolution.
