The Philippine National Police (PNP) assured the public that it is not setting aside the allegations of extra-judicial killings (EJKs) against Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa despite the withdrawal of the subpoena earlier issued by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
In a report by RH Edniel Parrosa on Rapido Hataw Balita, PNP spokesperson PBGen. Randulf Tuaño said the CIDG continues to document the case and remains prepared to invite dela Rosa for investigation once the Senate protection order covering the senator expires.
According to Tuaño, the subpoena was recalled out of respect for the institution of the Senate, where dela Rosa currently serves as a sitting senator.
“Ito ay may kaugnayan sa pinag-usapan ni Chief PNP at ng director ng CIDG bilang respeto sa institusyon ng Senado kaugnay ng Senate protection order na inisyu nila para kay Sen. Bato dela Rosa,” Tuaño said.
He added that the CIDG’s investigation remains ongoing and that authorities are continuing to complete the necessary documentation.
“Patuloy ang imbestigasyon nila, kinukumpleto nila nag documentation at maarang masettle ‘yung isyu ng Senate protection order, magsusumite ulit ang CIDG para magpareceive ng panibagong subpoena kay Sen. Bato dela Rosa,” he added.
Tuaño also confirmed that the office of dela Rosa received the CIDG’s letter of recall for the subpoena on the morning of May 13.
The senator was originally scheduled to appear before the CIDG’s Major Crimes Scene Investigation Unit at Camp Crame on May 14.
Despite the recall, Tuaño maintained that the PNP’s investigation into the alleged extra-judicial killings during the administration of former president Rodrigo Duterte is continuing.
He said authorities remain ready to summon dela Rosa once the protection order is no longer in effect.
Tuaño also noted that the PNP is waiting for either a court order for extradition or proper coordination from Interpol regarding related developments.
