The Philippine National Police (PNP) is seeking the closure of two junket operators linked to a prominent casino over their alleged involvement in the recent abduction and murder of a Filipino-Chinese steel magnate.
In a press briefing, PNP Spokesperson PBGen. Jean Fajardo stated that the PNP will submit a position paper to formally request the issuance of a closure order.
The Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) has reportedly confirmed that the device was used to receive a ₱200 million ransom payment during the kidnapping of the said businessman.
Moreover, the investigation revealed that the money also passed through two junket operators before being converted into cryptocurrency—an aspect the PNP is still tracking as part of its ongoing money trail investigation.
Fajardo also stated that authorities strongly believe the accounts were used as channels for other illegal activities, including drug trafficking and POGO operations.
“We already identified at least two junket operators operating in one of the biggest casinos dito sa ating bansa because sila po ‘yung dinaanan po ng pera,” said Fajardo.
Currently, the PNP reports steady progress in their financial investigation, which seeks to determine the flow of the ransom money and why the businessman was killed despite his family paying for his release.
