The Philippine National Police (PNP) remains fully prepared for any eventuality ahead of the “Trillion Peso March 2.0” against corruption on November 30, despite reporting no specific security threats.
Acting PNP Chief Police Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police force is not discounting the possibility of infiltration by groups that may attempt to instigate violence—similar to incidents recorded during the September 21 mobilization.
As part of heightened preventive measures, the PNP has strengthened its intelligence monitoring and enhanced coordination efforts with various government agencies to guard against any attempts to hijack the protest.
Nartatez has also ordered police ground commanders to ensure the proper use and wearing of body-worn cameras during operations, and to promote transparency and accountability among deployed personnel.
Earlier, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced that around 15,000 personnel would be deployed over the weekend, even as the only activity with a confirmed permit so far is at EDSA White Plains in Quezon City.
Starting Friday, the NCRPO will also raise its alert status to full alert as part of its preparation for the large-scale protest expected on Sunday.
