The Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed more than 106,000 personnel on standby nationwide and raised its alert status to full alert ahead of Labor Day as part of intensified security measures for public assemblies and possible mass protests.

In an exclusive interview with DZRH’s Balansyado, PNP Spokesperson PBGen. Randulf T. Tuaño said the deployment is a standard preventive measure to ensure peace and order during large-scale public events.

“Tayo po ay nag-deploy ng 106,000 plus (personnel) nationwide... Itinaas na po ni PNP Chief Nartatez ang alert status ng PNP, naging full alert na po tayo,” Tuaño said.

He clarified that the heightened security posture is not based on any specific threat but is part of the police force’s duty to maintain order during Labor Day activities.

“Wala naman po tayong natitiktikan na anumang banta. Pero bahagi po ito ng trabaho ng PNP, may banta man o wala,” he added.

Tuaño also confirmed that several groups have applied for permits to hold rallies in Metro Manila and nearby areas. At least one application in Marikina has already been approved by the local government unit, while other applications, including in Quezon City, are still being processed.

He explained that under existing rules, applications not acted upon by local authorities within the prescribed period may be deemed approved.

With Labor Day demonstrations expected across the country, the PNP assured the public that security forces are fully prepared to manage crowds and ensure safety.

Tuaño emphasized that the deployment is part of proactive policing, including intelligence monitoring and coordination with local government units and organizers.

“Handang-handa na po ang Philippine National Police,” he said, stressing that the goal is to maintain peace and allow lawful assemblies while safeguarding public order.
