The Philippine National Police (PNP) have stepped in to assist in the investigation against individuals spreading disinformation about President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s health, according to a Friday report.
PNP Chief PGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has tasked the Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) to coordinate with other government agencies in tracing those involved, reported RH 52 Edniel Parrosa.
They will assist in the case build-up to fast-track the filing of the charges, which the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) aims to do by next week.
Nartatez explained that it is the PNP’s duty to ensure the nation’s stability, contrary to these ostensibly “sudden and coordinated” destabilization efforts, as described by PCO Secretary Dave Gomez in an earlier statement.
Earlier, the Palace disputed claims that the President remains physically unwell, not only in meetings but in its engagements with the public.
Nartatez advised the public to verify all information before sharing them.
On Thursday, Gomez said the PCO is currently gathering evidence against the perpetrators.
“The Presidential Communications Office is tracking and documenting every post, every comment, and every lie. Each one is a piece of evidence we can use in court,” Gomez said in a statement released on Thursday.
“We will identify the perpetrators, trace their networks, and file the proper charges in court once the evidence is complete hopefully by next week,” he added.
