The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it will not stop or prohibit police officers from testifying in the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) investigation into the drug war of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
PNP spokesperson PBGen. Randulf Tuaño said participation in the ICC process is a personal and legal decision for police personnel who may choose to cooperate.
Tuaño made the statement following the ICC’s call for possible direct witnesses to alleged extrajudicial killings linked to the anti-drug campaign from 2011 to 2019.
He clarified that the ICC’s appeal is voluntary and not mandatory, advising interested police officers to seek proper legal counsel before taking part.
The ICC has earlier launched a website where individuals may submit initial information that could assist the Office of the Prosecutor in its investigation.
