Authorities have ruled out foul play, including kidnapping or hazing, in the death of a 25-year-old law student from De La Salle University-Bonifacio Global City (DLSU-BGC), whose body was discovered in a vacant lot in Naic, Cavite, over the weekend.
In a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, Police Lt. Col. Resty Soriano, chief of the Naic Municipal Police Station, said there were no indications of foul play when the remains of Anthony Granada were recovered on Saturday, June 21.
Granada was first reported missing by his family on June 8, after he was last seen in Taguig City. CCTV footage showed him boarding a Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) heading toward Naic on the same evening.
Further backtracking of surveillance footage captured Granada walking alone toward a nearby resort in the area.
When his body was found, it was already in an "advanced state of decomposition," police said.
A bottle of what appeared to be toilet cleaner was reportedly found beside the body, while all of his personal belongings remained intact.
Initial reports from DZRH News cited statements from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and the Southern Police District confirming that there were no signs Granada had been abducted.
Authorities have conducted an autopsy and DNA testing on the remains, which are currently under the care of Imperial Funeral Homes in Trece Martires, Cavite.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of death.
