The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it continues to maintain a “full alert” status nationwide on Tuesday, November 18, despite the Iglesia ni Cristo ending its anti-corruption rally earlier than initially planned.
PNP Spokesperson Police Brigadier General Raldulf Tuano confirmed that police forces across the country remain on high alert, adding that security measures were initially set for the INC rally’s scheduled third and final day at Quirino Grandstand, which had already been declared concluded by the church on Monday evening, November 17.
Meanwhile, RH Edniel Parrosa reported that the UPI, led by a retired military officer, concluded their program at the White Plains area near the EDSA People Power Monument yesterday. However, the Quezon City Police District is still reviewing a request for an extension of the UPI rally, which had been planned to coincide with INC’s three-day protest.
According to the group’s latest announcement, pro-Duterte supporters are reportedly preparing another activity at the People Power Monument later in the day, with the stage from the two days rally still in place.
While INC participants have already removed their equipment at Quirino Grandstand and officially ended their rally, UPI’s stage remains intact, prompting continued police presence around the area.
Authorities estimate that around 550,000 people attended the second day of rallies in Manila, while about 4,500 joined the protests in Quezon City.
In addition, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) stated that they have been on alert since Saturday due to multiple protests across Metro Manila leading up to November 30.
Among these is the 'Trillion Peso March Movement,' a peaceful rally scheduled at the People Power Monument in Quezon City, coinciding with Bonifacio Day.
