The Philippine National Police (PNP) has relieved a female police officer linked to a shipment of 521 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine, locally known as shabu, intercepted in Laos and placed her under restrictive custody effective Oct. 13, pending an investigation.
In a statement dated Oct. 16, the PNP said it is working with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and other concerned agencies to establish the facts, identify those allegedly involved and determine the extent of the officer’s alleged participation.
The police force said it would not tolerate any involvement of its personnel in illegal drug activities.
“If evidence establishes the officer’s involvement in illegal drug activities, appropriate criminal and administrative proceedings will be pursued in accordance with the law,” the PNP said.
The PNP added that due process would be observed and conclusions would be based on evidence.
The police force also reaffirmed its commitment to the government’s campaign against illegal drugs and to holding its personnel accountable for any violations established by the investigation.
