The Philippine National Police (PNP) has officially released the line-up for the much-awaited boxing match between Acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte and PNP Chief General Nicolas Torre III, set for Sunday, July 27 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
The event, dubbed as “Boxing for a Cause,” features five undercard matches:
- Christian Tulayao vs. Glen Borja
- Abdul Sherif Dimas vs. Daniel Baltazar
- Raymundo Sumagat vs. Loyd Francisco
- Niño Basco vs. Daryl Sobretodo
- Troys Octaviano vs. Fofel Abrinica
The PNP has advised that all ticket sales are final and non-refundable.
"The organizer does not guarantee the attendance or participation of any specific fighters, including those scheduled for the main events. In the event of non-attendance or withdrawal of any participants, no refunds will be issued," the PNP said.
According to the PNP, this is due to the charitable nature of the event, with all proceeds going to designated charitable causes.
"By purchasing a ticket, attendees acknowledge and accept these terms and understand that changes to the fight card do not constitute grounds for a refund," it added.
Earlier, the PNP also shared a photo showing that a boxing ring has already been set up at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in preparation for the event.
It can be recalled that Duterte first challenged Torre to a fistfight, claiming that the PNP chief was only brave because of his position.
"Matapang ka lang naman, you have the position. Pero kung suntukan tayo, alam ko kaya kita kung ganon lang. You are a coward. You are nothing without your position," Duterte said during the July 20 episode of his Basta Dabawenyo podcast.
Gen. Torre accepted the challenge, saying it would be a good opportunity to raise funds for victims of the recent typhoon and flooding in Metro Manila.
On Thursday, Torre began training at the PNP Gym, with his boxing trainer commending his strength despite his age.
Later that day, Duterte released another video taunting Torre, saying he had long wanted to beat up “a monkey.” However, he also laid down a condition before stepping into the ring: President Marcos must first order all government officials to undergo a hair follicle drug test.
However, on Friday, Duterte reportedly flew to Singapore with some of his family members—an overseas trip confirmed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
