The Philippine National Police (PNP) has debunked reports of a robbery that supposedly took place in a Chinese restaurant in Greenhills, and is seeking to lodge cases against the sources of the misinformation.
San Juan City Police Chief Pol. Col. Deodennis Marmol called the purported incident making rounds on social media and messaging platforms “fake news.” The story goes that a female customer at Lugang Café was stabbed after refusing to hand over her valuables to the assailant.
However, Café Lugang itself issued a statement denying the occurrence following a visit by the local police.
“We are aware of a text message currently circulating about an alleged robbery at our Lugang Café O’Square Greenhills branch. We would like to assure everyone that this information is false. No such incident has occurred in any of our stores,” the restaurant management clarified.
PNP Public Information Chief Pol. Col. Randulf Tuaño said that the Joint Anti-Fake News Action Committee (JAFNAC) is currently conducting an investigation to identify the individuals involved in the spread of the false report.
In keeping with PNP Chief Pol. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil’s directive, Tuaño warned that proven sources of fake news resulting in public alarm will face charges.
