The Philippine National Police (PNP) called the allegedly military-backed movement targeting the administration merely “rumors,” according to a Wednesday report.
However, in a press conference in Camp Crame, PNP Spokesperson PBGen. Randulf Tuaño said the police are ready to investigate this claim, reported RH 52 Edniel Parrosa.
At present, Tuaño said they have yet to receive orders to validate the rumored uprising first disclosed by Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson.
Police Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. directed the police to distance themselves from similar political matters, Tuaño added.
In a separate statement, Nartatez assured that the PNP remains alert to such purported plans.
Nonetheless, like the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) response, Nartatez said they have not gotten ahold of any credible intelligence reports indicating planned destabilization efforts.
This comes as a response to Lacson’s statement, claiming that a number of retired military veterans are recruiting active soldiers and police officers to form a “People Power,” which the former PNP chief and now-senator disparaged.
