The Philippine National Police (PNP) has elevated its alert status to the highest level for Semana Santa, effective from Tuesday, March 31, until Monday, April 6, as part of precautionary measures to ensure public safety.
PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. confirmed that total personnel deployment has increased to 98,636, up from the initial announcement of 40,000. He emphasized the need for a stronger police presence in streets, transport hubs, public spaces, churches, and tourist destinations.
The operation will be supported by more than 37,000 “force multipliers” and an additional 12,000 personnel from other law enforcement agencies.
The move aims to maintain order and provide security amid the expected surge of travelers, even as rising fuel prices affect transportation costs.
The PNP-Highway Patrol Group (HPG) has already been deployed to key transport terminals and tourist areas to manage passenger flows, highlighting proactive measures to ensure a safe and orderly Holy Week.
