The Philippine National Police (PNP) is investigating two reports of large shipments of crystal methamphetamine, locally known as ‘shabu’, allegedly bound for the Philippines.
The reports involved a private jet from Malaysia intercepted in Laos carrying 521 kilograms of crystal meth and a boat seized in the Gulf of Thailand with more than 1 ton of illegal drugs.
Separate reports published in October indicated that both shipments were destined for the Philippines.
PNP spokesperson Col. Allen Rae Co said the police are coordinating with foreign counterparts to verify the initial information.
“We are verifying and we are already coordinating through the proper channels with the Laoatian and the Malaysian authorities. Titingnan pa natin kasi ito ay initial information na na-receive natin,” Co said at Camp Crame.
The PNP said it would continue coordinating with authorities in Laos and Malaysia as it verifies the reports.
