The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday denied circulating social media posts claiming a nationwide suspension of work and classes due to alleged tensions from the war in the Middle East.
In an official statement, the PNP emphasized that “no verified security threat that would warrant such an advisory.“
PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has ordered the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group to investigate the source of the misleading posts. Authorities have vowed to take appropriate legal action against those responsible.
The circulating claims falsely asserted that classes and work would be suspended from March 4 to 6 due to a supposed security threat.
“The PNP remains in close coordination with concerned agencies to ensure public safety and maintain peace and order,” the police said.
“We urge the public to remain calm and rely only on announcements released through official government channels. The deliberate spread of false information that causes unnecessary alarm is addressed under existing laws and will be dealt with accordingly,” it added.
Earlier, the PNP raised a heightened alert to prevent possible spillover from Middle East tensions.
However, aside from enhanced security at foreign embassies, the police and military maintained that the conflict has no direct impact on the Philippines.
The PNP reminded the public to verify information before sharing and encouraged collective efforts to prevent misinformation from disrupting public order.
