The Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed its units on alert amid the possibility that some groups may stage protest actions following the recent military strike by the United States in Venezuela.
Acting PNP Chief Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said he has ordered heightened security around the United States Embassy in Manila and other critical areas that could become venues for rallies or similar activities, as reported by RH Edniel Parrosa.
Nartatez added that the PNP’s intelligence units have also been directed to closely monitor social media platforms for possible calls to mobilize protests, similar to the September 21, 2025 rallies linked to corruption issues in the Philippines.
However, in a statement released on Monday morning, Nartatez clarified that authorities have not monitored any specific or imminent threats related to the US strike so far.
Meanwhile, the PNP on Monday held its first flag-raising ceremony for 2026, led by the acting chief at Camp Crame.
There has been no announcement yet on when Nartatez will formally be conferred his fourth star, following the transfer of former PNP chief Nicolas Torre III to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) as general manager.
On Sunday, Torre inspected the ongoing EDSA rehabilitation project, but Camp Crame said Malacañang is expected to make the official announcement regarding the conferment and other details concerning the next four-star general.
